Television has always been a big part of my life. Growing up, I watched a lot of HGTV and Food Network with my mom and brother while my dad was on work trips. My family also watched Dancing With The Stars and The Voice for a while. I loved the feeling of gathering around the television to consume something that everyone had an interest in. Some of my best memories are from being gathered around the television with people I love.
While I love a lot of different shows, there are a few that stand out above the rest. The Rehersal, created by Nathan Fielder, made me self reflect and think about I percieve the world aroud me more than any other show I've seen. Game of Thrones introduced me to a genre I never found myself drawn towards but have enjoyed more than I ever thought possible: fantasy. The Righteous Gemstones is a comedic commentary on Christian mega-churches that shines light on the greed and selfishness going on in churches. As someone who grew up in church, that was something that I once thought I could never find funny, and now love more than most shows.
I've also always been very fascinated with televison. From the writing, to the directing, to the way it's produced, I always found something to ask a question about while consuming a show or movie. As my interest has only grown stronger, I find myself being more critical as well as more impressed when watching something. Because we're in the age of the internet, originality can be hard to come by. The writing, acting, and production in the shows I spoke about earlier is the type of work that makes me hopeful about the projects to come. I look forward to what my generation continues to bring to the screen.
